Ragan Graves work is centered around an astute attention to detail. She utilizes a balance of colors, sizes, shapes, textures, weight and a generous mix of luxury ribbon in a 3D style that will engage the viewer taking them on an unforgettable journey, often revealing hidden surprises along the way. Her works are interpretations of moments in time that have touched her heart and reflect her personal family life, travels abroad to nearly 30 countries and her love of Texas. She appropriates special products ranging from local antique shops to specialty artisans from all over the world to customize specific pieces to interpret the scene she is bringing you into. Her works are designed to adorn the inside of the home, serve as interactive conversation pieces that will last for many years and be sure to become one of your favorite Christmas heirlooms.
Who is Ragan?
What brought me here?
I am the 9th child of 11 born in upstate New York, amid the breath-taking Catskill mountains. My childhood was a very trying one, riddled with poverty, and child abuse. However, in a world of perpetual uncertainty, inconsistency and fear – Christmas was ALWAYS the best time of year. It was a time of hope, laughter, kindness, and love. Christmas Turkeys and canned yams with a bag of marshmallows were delivered each year from church. Mittens and warm winter hats wrapped in pretty Christmas paper were given to me from my elementary school to take home. I can remember singing Christmas carols in the back of pickup trucks while knocking on doors in different neighborhoods to collect “Toys for Tots”, and some of these gifts would end up under our Christmas tree.
There were so many things that tickled my heart and gave me such joy during the holiday season as a child. We had very little, but each other, a beautiful revolving themed Christmas tree, and a HUGE cardboard Santa and all of his reindeer taped up across one entire wall.
So during Christmas time I recreate these joyous heart felt moments on wreaths for myself, my family, and others as family heirlooms to excite, and fill your hearts with hope, laughter, kindness and love.
